All for the Good of Sweden? Stieg Larsson Says No

Author: Prasoon Kumar

The team of Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist has unearthed a small group of hard liners who are determined to protect the best interests of the country (whatever it might be). Primarily their task is to protect Zalachenko who is the prized Soviet defector for the west. There are grey men in the SSA who have formed a complete new identity for Zalachenko, thus effectively giving him free rein to do whatever he wants to, including wife beating and all.

The Dark Forces Are Against Her

This is a complete army of old men who are convinced the whole affair would become wide open once Zalanchenko and his daughter start to communicate with the authorities. Although the guardian of Lisbeth Salander was a key tool for them to control her and they have lost him, they have enlisted the help of a psychologist who locked Lisbeth at the age of 12 years. There is only one person, Dr Jonasson, who believes Lisbeth needs to be protected, and he stands between her and the evil forces going all out to silence her.

The Real Story Starts Now

The book comes into its own when the group of Lisbeth Salander, Mikael Blomkvist and hackers form an online group to strike back at their enemies. An important report from Blomkvist's apartment is stolen by SSA, he gets back at them by finding out more than what they thought was possible. He has decided to play a dangerous double bluff game with them.

Lisbeth Salander and Sweden Are Alike

In fact, Lisbeth Salander and Sweden are alike in many aspects; both of them have been wronged many times. Sweden is wronged by secret groups of people who came together due to partly delusional and evil reasons. The hero Mikael Blomkvist is driven both by journalistic spirit and also due to his friendship with Lisbeth who is being wronged by the coalition of men who hate women.

Despite Weaknesses, the Story Has a Heart

It's not that the book doesn't have its weaknesses. For example, we don't know why Zalachenko is important for the secret agents. Stieg Larsson doesn't tell us a lot about his criminal enterprise. At the same time, it is not a spy thriller, despite the impression you have got so far. The story comes with a lot of heart, all due to Mikael, other journalists, secret agents, and of course, authentic details from the author.

The Author Intended To Tell Us More

There are hints throughout the series, probably Stieg Larsson intended to tell more stories in the later stages of the series, which sadly remains incomplete due to his untimely death. One thing is for sure, it is an original story, which has been written with great intelligence, where the readers don't know whether to find out what happened first, or to take their time to prolong the hypnosis created by the books.
